Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

  • 1/2 - 1 lb ground beef or turkey (depending on how meaty you like your sauce)
  • 2 - 15 oz cans tomato sauce (we use Kirkland organic)
  • 1 - 14.5oz can diced tomatoes (we use Kirkland organic)

OPTIONAL seasonings (use what you have on hand or like)

  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 TBSP chopped onion (I often use the pre-chopped frozen onions instead)
  • 1 tsp crushed garlic (we use the giant bottle you can get at Costco)
  • 1 TBSP dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/8 tsp dried dill
  • 1/8 tsp crushed red peppers

Directions:
Prepare spaghetti noodles according to package directions. While noodles are cooking, begin making the sauce by putting the meat to book in a deep skillet or sauce pan. (I use a mashed potatoes masher to get the meat as small as possible). Add the cans of tomato sauce and the diced tomatoes (include the liquid). Add the seasonings as desired. Stir to combine. Reduce heat & cover. Simmer until noodles are ready, stirring frequently so it doesn't burn or boil over. Serve topped with Parmesan cheese (Brian uses like 4 TBSP!)

And, since I'm gluten free and cannot eat the noodles, or even remotely stand the gluten free options, I just pile the sauce on top of some green beans and top with Parmesan!
